2012 Super Bowl Date

The 2012 Super Bowl date is scheduled to take place on February 5, 2012 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. This will be the 46the Super Bowl game and it is also the first time that the Super Bowl game will be held in Indiana.

The Super Bowl is not just a sporting event it’s also known a media frenzy and an unofficial national holiday. American people love football and the Super Bowl is America’s premiere sporting event. During the Super Bowl many people host parties and they put on concerts and sporting events. There is dancing, singing, socializing and lots of eating and drinking.

People dress up in the opposing teams jerseys and they sit glued in front of their televisions sets watching in anticipation to see who will become the victorious champions. Companies and marketers fight furiously for commercial air time during Super Bowl games.

This is because more than 100 million people watch the game televised making it the largest media presentation in history. Not only do companies and corporations fight each other for air time cities also try to outbid each other in order to host the Super Bowl within their limits. Hosting the Super Bowl is important with generating extra income that could be used within the economy of a particular metropolitan area.

Franchise owners make the final decision on where games are going to be held after they receive the bids. The Super Bowl has always been traditionally held in February of each year and in previous years it usually was played in January.

Over the years the teams and the games were expanded and so was the date for playing the NFL games. The AFC and NFC championship games are played two weeks before the Super Bowl to determine which teams will compete within the Super Bowl which is played on the first Sunday in February.

It was a successful bid by Indianapolis back in May 2008, besting Houston, Texas, and Arizona for the right to host.

The Lucas Oil Stadium is a multi-purpose sports stadium, a known venue for national football and basketball games, Marching Band competitions, and even for public concerts. It opened its doors to the public on August 24, 2008 with the objective of replacing the RCA Dome as the home field of the National Football League’s (NFL) Indianapolis Colts. Lucas Oil announced on February 28, 2006 that it purchased the naming rights of the stadium for over 20 years for a hefty amount of $121 million.

The Lucas Oil Stadium can seat up to 70,000 of the football fans during Super Bowl. To enhance your viewing experience, two massive Daktronics high definition scoreboards have been mounted in the northwest and southeast corners of the stadium. One unique feature of the stadium is the retractable roof that divides lengthwise into two retractable panels.

Indianapolis is being transformed in preparation for this much anticipated event. New hotels are being constructed to accommodate thousands of football fans that would flock to this downtown area. The local government is setting up some renovations so that the indoor tunnels and skywalks are completely in place to improve the commute in the city.
